An Open Letter To America

Dear America
I am hoping you are well and that you are coping with the most recent shooting. I was sitting in my lounge room the other day as usual when an article on the news came on regarding the shooting at a South Florida High School. 17 killed, many more injured and an entire community left frightened.

I am writing to you demanding to see change. Not just talk and discussion but actions towards laws regulating guns. For the 92% of America’s population who believe there should be change in the laws such as more background checks, limit the amount of guns one person can own, raise the age a person can purchase a gun or make certain guns illegal. I implore you to speak up and use your voice. Demand attention from those who are unwilling to listen and don’t step down until you are satisfied with the change happening.

I do not see the reason to give the power to so many people who may decide the fate of others lives, Time Himself can be bought from the store. Many walking around with their hands clutching the cold, deadly metal.

How many times does this need to happen. How many times does our news need to be flooded with deaths before change occurs. When is enough enough? Fighting fire with fire is going to fuel the blaze to a point where it is out of control. Fighting guns with guns is not going to make the problem any better.

From the 1st of January this year until the 22nd of February there have been 34 shootings resulting in casualties of 4 or more people. When is enough enough?

Sincerely,

A very concerned world citizen
