Musical Mania
If you haven't already guessed based on the title of this post, the next few paragraphs will be about musicals. My top 20 favourite musicals to be exact.
The other day I saw Mama Mia the musical at the Capitol Theatre. To say I enjoyed it would be an understatement. The entire show from beginning to end was entertaining, full of relevant jokes and extremely engaging. To anyone who has the chance to see it I would 10/10 recommend. I can confidently say I would see the musical again just because of how much fun I had. You can not fake true chemistry between characters and the bond the cast had was evident on stage. Because of the bond, the funny scenes were even funnier. The cast passed on a joyful energy to the audience that sustained throughout until we all walked out the doors. The cast was amazing, the stage was amazing, they had a band instead of orchestra and they were amazing and the lighting made it just that bit better.
Unfortunately a very large amount of the musicals I have listed have only performed on Broadway and have not toured to Australia. therefore I am only judging the fact that they are a good musical the soundtrack.
In no particular order here are some of my all time favourite musicals both on broadway and on DVD.
1. The Greatest Showman
2. Hamilton
3. The Book of Mormon
4. Hairspray
5. The Lion King
6. Aladdin
7. Grease
8. The Sound of Music
9. Mary Poppins
10. Wizard of Oz
11. Dear Evan Hansen
12. Wicked
13. Waitress
14. In the Heights
15. Mama Mia
16. Matilda
17. Billy Elliot
18. Straight outta Oz
19. Guys n Dolls
20. Newsies
If anyone reading has a favourite musical that is not on this list, please let me know so I can give it a listen.
